If you visited the library lately you will have noticed some changes. The growing number of students visiting the library and new forms of education made it necessary to reorganize our spaces in a more efficient way. We removed an important amount of the print collections (both books and journals) to the archives and created more working and study areas for students.
- All journal volumes have been removed to our archives (there are only 2 stacks left with the print version of the current year). Every researcher or staff member with authorization for document delivery can still order articles through our document delivery form. Students and visitors can order the articles at the information desk or via our website.
- The different library zones have a more pronounced character:
- a zone with approx. 40 PCs for individual work (or small groups),
- a zone for collaborative work (17 PCs)
- a lively entrance zone / lounge (8 express PCs, copy en print corner, new chairs and seats).
- a study room, with a collection of (reference) books and theses. This is the only quiet zone.
- The library also lost some space in favor of a new corridor (to be constructed) to the building O&N4; this is already the pathway to visit the IT department of the Group Biomedical Sciences.
- There was also a modest refurbishment: we have some new colorful walls, new trendy furniture for the lounge zone, and new comfortable chairs for PC work.
- In August some quotes will decorate some of our walls
This transformation is a first step for what has to become a new Learning and Information Centre. In about three years there will be a new building constructed for both Alma restaurant & Learning Centre. We will keep you informed about this project in the near future.
